Uruguay is a small country located in South America at the Rio de la Plata and the South Atlantic Ocean. It has borders to Argentina and Brazil. 3.3 Mio. people live in Uruguay.
Culture
Uruguay is the motherland of the Tango music. Additionally the country is full of Candome music, especially at the time of the carnival from mid January to the end of February.
Economy
Traditionally Uruguay has a big agricultural industry producing the best beef of the world and very good red wine. Besides that the country is moving to green energy.

Ruben Rada's music, labelled "candombe beat", combines pop, rock,and many other international musical styles with typically Uruguayan sounds like those of the candombe drums and of the murga choruses typical of the Uruguayan Carnival.

Uruguay is the homeland of the tango dance. Almost every night you can find "milongas" - the traditional dance nights, where Uruguayans dance from midnight to dawn. And most important for those who are shy: Everybody dances with everybody!

about OUR SOCIETY
The Austrian-Uruguayan Society was founded in 2003 to foster the relationship between our two small countries.
Both countries are known for great music good food and an outstanding dancing culture.
Only in soccer we really differ!
The Austrian-Uruguayan Society is a member of the Federation of Austrian-Foreign Societies-PAN
and promoting the cooperation and understanding between both countries on all levels.
