"Mein Montevideo"

WELTjournal correspondent Julieta Rudich presents a documentary about her hometown

Montevideo is known as one of the cities with the best living quality and the most liberal society in South America. The capital of Uruguay surprises also by other means: Uruguay is the only country in world where not only the consumption but also the production of Marijuana has been legalized. Also concerning controversial topics like abortion or homosexuality Uruguay shows its modern liberal face.

The ORF correspondent Julieta Rudich lived in her childhood in Montevideo and invites us to visit her hometown. In former times Montevideo was a focal point for European refugees who were escaping from hunger, war and prosecution. Nowadays you can feel the heritage from different cultures, who are living peacefully next to each other.

Hansi Lang, the famous Austropop singer wrote a song about "Montevideo" highlighting the famous sunsets over there. Julietas great city portrait shows these magic moments, creating a big desire to visit her fascinating hometown.
